Online courses can be a realistic solution to pursue Arabic study and overcome the barriers of times, work, distance, and cost

Making use of Technology, YIAL initiated its online courses 3 years ago starting with one student who wanted to complete her arabic studies but she hadn’t enough time to stay at the school. After she had arrived home, she contacted YIAL with the idea of completing her Arabic course online. At the beginning, the idea seemed strange , but we decided to try it. Immediately, YIAL staff, teachers and students met together to discuss the idea of offering online classes, and surprisingly most of them encouraged it. Moreover, students were excited to try the new idea since it would help them overcome a lot of problems.
Since 2010, online courses at YIAL have been increasing steadily, and covering all types of YIAL courses, such as MSA, GPA, Yemeni Dialect, Media Arabic, Advanced Arabic courses, and Tajweed. The most important advantage of online teaching is its flexibility to fit students’ times either during the day or at night. Students can choose the number of sessions to meet online with their teachers, and the length of each session. All these arrangements are agreed on with YIAL online coordinator upon the student’s application. Besides, students can test the quality of online interaction by giving them the chance to do a free class online before being committed to the course. They discuss with the teacher all issues related to the materials of the course, the times, the methods of teaching, and how they will be evaluated.
Students are given the chance to evaluate their courses, and the teacher’s performance through online evaluation form already designed at YIAL’s website. By doing so, they help YIAL improve the academic performance, and offer better courses.

To conclude, since the idea of offering online Arabic courses was initiated and encouraged mutually by YIAL staff, teachers, and students, academic performance is better improved through mutual evaluation to reach creative styles of teaching, and effective solutions for any expected problems
